Catholic Healthcare Opens its Newest Home, Holy Spirit in Casula

on Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Catholic Healthcare recently celebrated the official opening and blessing of its newest Residential Aged Care Home, Holy Spirit in Casula. The event also marks the launch of a new Home and Community Services hub based at Holy Spirit providing Home Care support to seniors in the south west Sydney region.

Located in the heart of south west Sydney, the Home features private bedrooms with ensuites and a dedicated Memory Support Wing for residents living with dementia.

Holy Spirit is modern and architecturally designed, offering a range of lifestyle services and activities for residents to enjoy. The Home nurtures a sense of community with warm and inviting lounge and dining areas, light-filled courtyards and gardens, and a range of amenities including a café, Chapel, gym, physiotherapy rooms, games rooms, hair salon, and a community Wellness Centre.

The official address and plaque unveiling was conducted by Ms Melanie Gibbons MP, Member for Holsworthy, followed by a blessing of the Home by Most Reverend Terence Brady DD VG EV, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney. Catholic Healthcare representatives were also in attendance.

“Holy Spirit is a much-needed welcome addition to the south west Sydney community,” said Ms Gibbons. “We have an ageing population and high demand for aged care options in the area. Holy Spirit will fulfil this need. It is a beautiful, classy home where staff are committed to treating residents, clients and each other with respect and dignity.”

Newly appointed Residential Manager at Holy Spirit, Elaine McRory said, “At Holy Spirit, we will build a sense of community and support people of all faiths, backgrounds and ethnicities. We are privileged to work in our residents’ home, and we welcome families, friends and their furry, four-legged loved ones to visit.

“Our Enrich Model of Care is aligned with best practice and reinforces our respect for each individual. We look forward to welcoming residents to their new home,” added Elaine.

“It has been a highlight of my career to be the Project Manager for Holy Spirit, Casula,” said Iulia Brooks from Catholic Healthcare’s Property team.

“The carefully considered design has resulted in a Home where residents can enjoy many amenities. Different door designs and colours have also been used for each resident’s room, helping to individualise the spaces and assist with memory recognition.

“My favourite space is the Chapel and the beautiful stained-glass window which is hand-painted and where the light changes at different times of the day. It’s such a peaceful and restful place.

“Another special feature is the display of historical photographs of the Liverpool area. These archive images were sourced from Liverpool City Council and local libraries, and include photos of the original Liverpool pool, local pubs, shopping strips, and the old Liverpool stand at Warwick Farm Racecourse,” added Iulia.

General Manager, Residential Care, Andrew Kinkade said, “We are delighted to welcome our first residents to Holy Spirit, Casula and look forward to serving the local community in the years ahead.”

Following the opening and blessing, attendees enjoyed light refreshments and an opportunity to tour the Home.
