My Aged Care is an online portal and specialised call centre run by the government designed to help senior Australian’s access government funded aged care services, including residential aged care, home care and community care.
If you wish to receive government funded aged care services, you will need to use My Aged Care.
The website and call centre can help you find information about a range of subsidised aged care options, including the services available, eligibility and the costs associated.
In order to access government funded aged care services, you will need to register your details with My Aged Care, either by phone or online. When you register, you will be given a user ID which is used to keep a central record of all your assessed needs and the services you receive.
Before you can access any government funded aged care services, you will need to have an aged care assessment to determine your care needs.
Government funded services available:
Aged Care Assessment
Once you register with My Aged Care, you will need an aged care assessment. This assessment will determine how much care and support you need and the best type of service that will work best for you.
You will need to speak to a My Aged Care customer service operator over the phone who will organise your assessment through the Regional Assessment Service (RAS) or Aged Care Assessment Team/Service (ACAT/ACAS).
An aged care assessment is a face-to-face meeting with a medical professional to identify the care type best suited to you.
Your My Aged Care Referral Code
After your aged care assessment, you will be given a referral code. Your chosen aged care provider will need this code to manage the referral.
The My Aged Care referral code is a five-digit number, linked to the services you are eligible for. If you are eligible to multiple services, you will have an individual referral code for each.
Once you have your My Aged Care referral code, you can start looking for a suitable aged care provider using an independent site like Aged Care Online.
