Taking the good with the bad and a commitment to staying in love is the secret to a successful marriage according to Mercy Place Mandurah residents Betty and Leslie Williams, who celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary last week.
The couple met when they were 21 years old at their local church in Waroona and went on to marry on 23 April 1949, after which they continued to live in the small town for the majority of their married lives, and where they brought up their son.
“We’ve had a wonderful life together, and in my opinion there’s three things you need for a good marriage, which are love, respect and compatibility,” says Mr Williams.
“Being great friends and having a really good partnership has always worked for us,” adds Betty.
Mercy Place Mandurah Service Manager, Simone Baxter, says the entire Mercy Health team was keen to congratulate the couple on their anniversary.
“Everyone at Mercy Place Mandurah was keen to wish Betty and Leslie all the very best on their 72nd anniversary,” Ms Baxter says. “It is a tribute to both of them to have built such a solid foundation for a long-lasting and happy life together.
“Reaching such a milestone anniversary is a wonderful achievement and it is very special to see them still truly happy when they’re with each other.”
