World’s Greatest Shave at Ridgway House

On 22 April, staff, Volunteers and clients got together at Resthaven's Ridgway House for Assistant Manager, Julian Sporne’s, highly anticipated hair colouring day for the World’s Greatest Shave.

The idea came from a conversation between Home Support Worker, Bec Marshall, and Julian earlier this year.

"I have a different hair colour most weeks, and when I come in, Julian likes to give me a hard time", said Bec Marshall.

"I said to him, 'I’ll have to give you a full makeover one day and colour your hair all sorts of crazy colours' – he loved the idea!"

"It is always great to do what you can to fundraise for causes such as the World’s Greatest Shave, and the ongoing joke of colouring my hair seemed like the perfect opportunity,’ said Julian Sporne.

With the idea of painting their manager’s hair crazy colours, staff and Volunteers got right into the event planning.

"Staff and Volunteers were excited by the idea of course, and they did a fantastic job of making flyers and doing multiple letterbox drops to promote the event – we even had people promoting it on their social media accounts."

The original goal for the team at Ridgway House was to reach $1,000, but as the big day approached, they realised they were going to raise a lot more.

"Today alone, we have managed to raise $200, and so the total will be well over the original goal!"

The event saw staff and Volunteers getting into the spirit by dressing up in colourful, fun outfits – prompting clients to don hair feathers and make use of the photo booth props made available.

"It was great fun, most clients got up and painted a patch of my hair - I know the staff and Volunteers certainly enjoyed the opportunity!"

"It was a most successful day, and everyone had a good laugh at me. I am sure everyone will be talking about this day for the rest of the year."

"I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with next time around!"
