Cooking Session Puts the Fun into Fundraising for RSPCA Cupcake Day

on Monday, August 23, 2021

Residents at Mercy Place Mandurah will be fighting cruelty with cupcakes this month, as they participate in the sweetest fundraiser of the year - Cupcake Day for RSPCA.

Over a dozen of the self-confessed animal lovers will be rolling up their sleeves to help bake, ice and eat dozens of cupcakes, in a bid to raise funds to help the thousands of sick, injured and neglected animals that RSPCA WA deals with each year.

Mercy Place Mandurah Service Manager, Simone Baxter, says seniors at the home were huge animal lovers who, when they read about the fun fundraiser, wanted to help make a difference.

“When our residents heard about Cupcake Day, they jumped on the opportunity to combine a cooking session with helping to raise much-needed funds for RSPCA WA," Ms Baxter said.

“Even though animal cruelty is something we all find hard to think about, the majority of our residents have owned animals in their younger years and so have been keen to help raise money for animal welfare services across the State.

“Our residents also love baking, icing, and eating cupcakes, and the fact that by doing so we can raise money for the RSPCA is just the icing on the cake.”

Held nationally in August every year - Cupcake Day aims to raise vital funds for RSPCA WA, which relies on fundraising activities for over 90 per cent of its funding.
