It’s Time for Aged Care to Step Into the Digital Age

on Monday, November 8, 2021

The aged care system is well behind other sectors when it comes to the application of technology and has no clear ICT strategy. This, along with multiple other factors sees our aged care system behind the research, innovation, and technological curves according to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

Providers should now be starting to think about their technological progression needs and consider solid IT&T infrastructure to support future growth noting potential financial, operational and patient care implications.

Leading the charge is Homestyle Aged Care Services, a prominent owner/operator of ten high-quality, purpose-built homes, with over 1,000 government funded beds. The business striving to integrate a better service offering by implementing a better technology infrastructure. Before embarking on its transformation journey, the Company’s existing wired network, procured from a variety of vendors had been deployed in an ad-hoc fashion over many years – and was failing to support developmental changes.

Through working with Spirit Technology Solutions, Homestyle was able to integrate and incorporate several its existing beacons, sensors, and biometric devices into its new Aruba network. The upgrade also supported an administrative platform such as those for rostering and payroll – ensuring an undisturbed performance for the Company, and a better service offering for its patients.

Spirit’s MD Sol Lukatsky says Homestyle is now able to deliver the next generation of integrated resident care services and outcomes while delivering the greatest standard of care for residents.
