Not-for-profit aged care home Mercy Place Mandurah will host a very special celebration this month – the 66th wedding anniversary of residents Kingsley and Lenore Bremner, who tied the knot back in the late 1950s.
And according to the couple, who live together at the home, taking the good with the bad and a commitment to staying in love is the secret to a successful marriage.
After courting for five years, Lenore, who grew up in Subiaco, and Kingsley, who hails from Benalla in Victoria, were married on 21 January 1956 at the Methodist Church on Derby Street in Subiaco, during what Kingsley recalls was a 14-day heatwave.
They went on to have four children – one boy and three girls, two of which are twins – and now have four grandchildren and six great grandchildren, with the youngest only four months old.
And this week, the couple will celebrate their milestone with friends and family, as well as Mercy Health staff.
“We courted for several years before getting married as we met whilst I was in the army,” Mr Bremner says.
“We have been very fortunate in our lives, and were blessed to have four happy and healthy children,” adds Mrs Bremner. “Today we are very proud of our children, grandchildren and great, grandchildren. We are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful family.”
Mercy Place Mandurah Service Manager, Simone Baxter, said the entire Mercy Health team wase keen to congratulate the couple on their special milestone anniversary.
“Everyone at Mercy Health is keen to wish Kingsley and Lenore all the very best on their anniversary,” Ms Baxter says. “It’s a tribute to both of them to have built such a solid foundation for a long-lasting and happy life together.
“Reaching such a milestone anniversary is a wonderful achievement and it is genuinely very special to see them still truly happy when they’re with each other.”
