In a step closer to contemporary person-centric aged care design, MercyCare has appointed EMCO Building to construct its new state-of-the-art Residential Aged Care Home in Maddington.
“We’re thrilled to announce EMCO Building as our builder of choice for this exciting new build that will provide excellence in aged care to the local community,” MercyCare CEO Anthony Smith said.
“We are confident EMCO will be able to deliver on our vision for a vibrant campus that can support our staff in the delivery of contemporary and compassionate care for 108 residents.”
EMCO Building was selected for its technical capability and experience at delivering projects across multiple sectors, including aged care. The construction company’s appointment follows a comprehensive three-month tender process.
“We are pleased to have been selected to partner with MercyCare on this exciting development. We’ve had great success in building aged care facilities over the past decade, and it is rewarding to see how the sector has developed over that period to offer really high-quality accommodation and care,” EMCO Building CEO Ron Keogh said.
“The success of a building project is, in no small part, determined by the relationships between the client, consultants and builder which, we are pleased to say, have been positive so far which bodes well for the main build. This has never been truer than in today’s challenging environment when understanding and flexibility is needed by the whole team. We look forward to breaking ground in the next few weeks and delivering another high-quality development for the aged care sector.”
The new MercyCare Maddington Aged Care Home is based on the small house model of care, which creates living environments which are home-like in appearance, domestic in scale, and provide a more intimate environment.
With a residential streetscape, the new home is spread over two floors with six “small houses”. There will be connection to nature via a wellness garden, while the second storey will enjoy vistas over the surrounding environment.
MercyCare is a long-established provider of aged care with experience and respect built over the care provided at its five existing Residential Aged Care homes within Perth.
“This evidence-based small house model gives residents the familiar feeling of home with easy access to a kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as that connection to gardens and a wellness hub,” Mr Smith said.
“Behind the scenes there is advanced technology and good design to support our staff to deliver best practice care.”
Evidence shows the small house model of care can deliver wellness and memory benefits for residents, as well as encouraging independence.
Initial works on the 7,892sqm site will begin early March with construction expected to begin in earnest early April.
MercyCare expects the first residents to move in early 2024.
The site is located on Maddington Road, adjacent to MercyCare’s existing Residential Aged Care Home.
