"Palliative Care is a Lot More Than Most People Understand."

on Tuesday, May 31, 2022

Last week was National Palliative Care Week, an initiative that aims to encourage awareness and conversations on the many benefits of palliative care. Prestige InHome Care asked Janine Stockley, GM and Director of Nursing at Cabrini Palliative & Support Care Service, to share how palliative care has changed over the years and how timely access can support people living with a life-limiting illness.

Janine says, “Palliative care is a lot more than most people understand. Historically, it used to be just end-of-life care. We [at Cabrini Palliative Care] do provide end-of-life care, and we do it well. However, we also see a lot more patients for symptom management. In fact, at the Cabrini Palliative Care Unit, more people get discharged home with support than pass away.”

The benefits of palliative care at home

Prestige Inhome Care believe everyone deserves the opportunity to spend the last stages of their life, in their own home, surrounded by the people and things they love most.

They also understand the challenges of supporting a loved one with a life-limiting illness.

To enable you, or your loved one, to stay in the comfort of home with pride and dignity, Prestige Inhome Care will work alongside your GP and palliative care team to create and provide tailored care.

Palliative care in the comfort and privacy of your own home will give you more options and greater choices, so you and your loved ones can focus on the things that really matter.

Prestige Inhome Care's approach to in-home palliative care services is based on:

Tailored support

Prestige Inhome Care can offer in-home support, where every aspect of your palliative care is tailored to suit you or your loved one’s needs and wants, giving you greater flexibility and choice.

Their respectful and experienced team of registered nurses and carers are also able to provide round-the-clock support, to help take care of everything.

As part of your tailored support, you and your loved ones will be supported by a dedicated Prestige Inhome Care Case Manager who will coordinate and oversee all aspects of your care plan.

Shared care facilitation

Prestige Inhome Care will work alongside your GP and palliative care team to provide seamless care and support to you or your loved one.

Experienced nurses and medication support

Prestige Inhome Care's respectful and experienced team of registered nurses can assess, plan and administer daily medication and manage symptoms. They can also provide round-the-clock nursing care if you or your loved one have high-support needs.

Flexible care

You can start and change your care and/or nurses and carers or move to a hospice or hospital at any time. You are not locked into any contract or any set care plan. You can also cancel at any time.

Partnerships with allied health

Prestige Inhome Care work closely with allied health professionals and equipment providers to help you receive reduced wait times and rates, to ensure your home is set up to best meet your needs.
