A Day to Offer Thanks to Dedicated Staff

on Thursday, June 30, 2022

Mercy Place Edgewater resident Mike Roberts admits that he was hesitant and a little unsure about entering aged care, but in the three months that he has lived at the not-for-profit home the team of carers have become like a second family.

“Everyone here is incredibly kind, caring and patient and they have made the transition from my family home in Hillarys to my new home at Mercy Place Edgewater incredibly easy,” says the 94-year-old who was born in London and brought up in South Wales, along with his five sisters.

“And even though I do need a certain level of care, everyone here supports me to live quite independently, for instance I’m writing my memoirs at the moment and the staff have not only encouraged me, but have been genuinely interested in learning about my life and my many adventures and escapades.”

Mike will be just one of the residents at Mercy Place Edgewater to offer his appreciation to staff at the home on Aged Care Employee Day, a national recognition day to celebrate Australia's aged care workers which will be marked on 7 August 2021.

The day is set to be celebrated by Mercy Health to thank all workers across the organisation’s five aged care homes in WA, for their professionalism and commitment in caring for senior West Australians.

Mercy Place Edgewater Service Manager, Pammy Singh, says Aged Care Employee Day provides an opportunity to recognise the incredible work of aged care workers at the not-for-profit home and to thank them for their care and dedication.

“Over the past two and a half years in particular, through COVID-19 outbreaks and necessary pandemic restrictions, our team’s diligence and dedication while caring for our seniors has been inspiring,” she says.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have a passionate and hard-working team at Mercy Place Edgewater which includes carers, nurses, chefs, allied health staff, cleaners, gardeners, laundry and administration staff and lifestyle coordinators, and we want them to know that their hard work is both appreciated and recognised by not only Mercy Health, but also all of the residents for whom they care.”
