Lifeview will run a special Men’s Health Week program at all its homes, from 13to 19 of June. Men's Health Week focuses on not just physical health, but also men's mental health and emotional wellbeing. During the week, health challenges faced by men will be highlighted and events that can be replicated year-round to improve the physical, emotional, and mental health of men will also be featured.
Through a series of promotions, events and publicity around the country, Men's Health Week is designed to provoke thought and discussion about what needs to be done to improve male health.
Lifeview’s program for the week includes mental health chats, pub lunches, bird box building, darts and card game afternoons. All activities for the week will be run by Lifeview’s male staff.
“Men's Health Week is an opportunity to celebrate both the good things that men and boys bring to our society and shed light on the health and well-being issues they face”, said Annitta Macauley, Social Support and Events Manager at Lifeview.
Residents enjoy the occasion to participate in events catered to them and for their wellbeing. It is also a great way to develop friendships and start conversations around subjects that matter.
“We run a week of activities for the men, run by the men, each activity offering the space to discuss men’s health in a private setting”, explained Annitta.
It is estimated that one out of every six Australian men suffers from depression at any given time. Compared to women, men visit the doctor less frequently, have shorter visits, and only attend when their illness is in its later stages. To change that, Lifeview is committed to shine the light on Men’s Health every year in June.
