Door Decor at Regis Hornsby

on Tuesday, July 26, 2022

A favourite display at Regis Hornsby is the fabulous door wraps, which celebrate a precious moment in residents’ lives. The most recent residents to take part in the project are John and Lita.

John is 95 and has been residing at Regis Hornsby for several years. The photo he chose to display was taken outside his family home in Turramurra, NSW when he was 24 years old. This photo holds significance to John as it was taken on his first day as a student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. John was studying there at the time, where he majored in singing and the piano.

Around the Home, John is vibrant and full of character. Known for participating in a wide range of activities, John is first in line at the monthly choir lessons, a tribute to his musical background.

Lita is 93 and chose a photo from one of the most memorable days in her life, taken in Johnsonville, New Zealand, in 1948. The occasion was her wedding day when she married her husband, Ian. Lita was only 21 years old when she married and said, “this is what we did in our day. We all got married young.”

After her marriage, Lita became a housewife and mother to her two children. Lita reflects fondly on her time just after getting married when she would hit the town with her husband on a Saturday and dance the night away. Much to the horror of her parents, Lita could also have been spotted tearing through the streets on the back of a motorbike.

The project has been a hit with residents and employees alike. Residents have adored seeing cherished memories plastered across their door, and the Regis team have loved peeking into residents past experiences.
