Offering Thanks to Dedicated Staff at Mercy Place Mandurah

on Wednesday, July 6, 2022

96-year-old Kingsley Bremner may have called not-for-profit aged care facility Mercy Place Mandurah home for the past six years, but he has never tired of showing his appreciation to the team of staff that supports him every day.

The great-grandfather and retired cartographer and draughtsman is also a budding poet, having spent the last 30 years of his retirement composing prose inspired by his day-to-day environment and, most recently, his appreciation of the nursing and care team that helps him to enjoy his interests and passions.

“The years I’ve lived at Mercy Place Mandurah have been a real blessing, as I’ve experienced genuine kindness from the staff who are always cheerful and who always greet me with a smile,” he says.

“Even during the difficult times over the last two and a half years of the pandemic, the staff have always been ready to have a chat and a laugh. They have risen to the occasion every time, particularly during lockdowns, and I can honestly say that they brighten my day, every day.”

Kingsley will be just one of the residents at Mercy Place Mandurah to offer his appreciation to staff at the home on Aged Care Employee Day, a national recognition day to celebrate Australia's aged care workers which will be marked on 7 August 2022.

The day is set to be celebrated by Mercy Health to thank all workers across the organisation’s five aged care homes in WA, for their professionalism and commitment in caring for senior West Australians.

And in his authentic and genuine way, Kingsley has written a poem to the team at Mercy Place Mandurah to show his appreciation for their care.

Mercy Place Service Manager Service, Simone Baxter, says Aged Care Employee Day provides an opportunity to recognise the incredible work of aged care workers at the not-for-profit home and to thank them for their care and dedication.

“Over the past two and a half years in particular, through COVID-19 outbreaks and necessary pandemic restrictions, our team’s diligence and dedication while caring for our seniors has been inspiring, which our much-loved resident Kingsley has been particularly attuned to,” she says.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have a passionate and hard-working team at Mercy Place Mandurah which includes carers, nurses, chefs, allied health staff, cleaners, gardeners, laundry and administration staff and lifestyle coordinators, and we want them to know that their hard work is both appreciated and recognised by not only Mercy Health, but also all of the residents for whom they care.”
