14 Boxes Full at Resthaven Aberfoyle Park

Resthaven Aberfoyle Park’s ‘knitting for the homeless’ initiative has gone from strength to strength since it began in 2019, with residents filling up 14 boxes of knitted goods to deliver this year.

Lifestyle Coordinator, and project founder, Navneet Kaur, says, "Every year, we have more residents join our knitting group, and it has become a bit of a challenge to see how many boxes we can fill!"

The initiative started when Nav noticed how much residents loved to knit.

"The ladies were always knitting, and oftentimes, their finished products didn’t have a place to go."

"I shared the idea to give to the homeless, as they would benefit from a warm blanket and a beanie in the colder months."

"The idea stuck, and has continued to grow over the years, as more and more residents find purpose in giving back to the community."

"This year, we have welcomed four new knitters, and have filled up 14 boxes in total! Our new record."

Nav and her husband personally deliver the knitted goods to homeless people on the streets of Adelaide each year in August, making sure to relay the positive responses to the group when they return.

"We have a great group of residents who enjoy the meaningful work we are doing — I am sure we will continue for many more years to come!"
