Edith Stanton Celebrates 102nd Birthday at Arcare Caulfield

on Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Arcare Caulfield resident, Edith Stanton recently celebrated her milestone 102nd birthday surrounded by friends, family, fellow residents, and her dedicated support team at Arcare.

For the big day, Edith spent the morning in a pampering session, getting her hair and makeup done by Arcare team members. Before going out for lunch to celebrate the special milestone, Edith’s family and friends joined her at Arcare Caulfield to sing her happy birthday and eat white chocolate cake.

“I am thrilled to be able to be a part of such a milestone and amazing celebration” one of Edith’s friends said.

Edith’s secret to life is that she always “looks on the bright side” and keeps a positive mindset. She also said that she “spends time with people that she is close to“ which keeps her active and in touch with her family and friends.

Born 2 September 1920 in Perth, Edith spent most of her childhood gardening and going to away on family holidays to Cottesloe. At the aged of 14, Edith relocated to Melbourne, where she met her husband and started her career. She was a passionate typist and worked for a Port Melbourne Motor Cars Company where she assisted with great enthusiasm the operational and administrative side of the business.

One of Edith favourite thing is the beach and growing up in St Kilda allowed her to spend lots of time on the Melbourne’s shore and with her friends, especially during the summer months.

Her most memorable time was in the summer of 1938, when one of her best friends and co-worker at the time, “Capitan Pretty”, took Edith on a scenic flight over Melbourne on a small two-seater plane.

“It was an amazing experience, at the time few people got to flight on a small plane, it was incredible” Edith said.

A mother to John, Judith and Jenny, a grandmother and a great-grandmother, Edith is living a very fulfilling life. Edith now says that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are something that she is “most proud of”.

“My family and friends are very important to me.” Edith said.
