Goodwin Appoints Stephen Holmes as New CEO

on Tuesday, September 6, 2022

Goodwin Aged Care Services, a Canberra-based not-for-profit aged care service provider, is delighted to announce the appointment of Stephen Holmes as the Chief Executive Officer.

Stephen joined Goodwin in 2014 as the Chief Operating Officer and has led the organisation delivering on corporate strategy. He comes with over 25 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, including housing, education, health, community care, sport, clubs, and animal welfare.

Goodwin is the largest and longest-standing aged care service provider in the ACT region providing above industry-standard services including residential care, home care, independent living, day clubs, and health and wellness centres for senior residents and clients.

Stephen Holmes said, “Goodwin is a caring organisation which places residents, clients, and employees at the heart of everything they do. I feel privileged to be given the responsibility to lead an organisation that holds an outstanding reputation for care service delivery and accommodation for seniors.”

Since its inception in 1954, Goodwin has diversified its service delivery by offering an expanded suite of services and accommodations to Canberrans and the region’s ageing population. Stephen boasts a wealth of industry knowledge and leadership skills that will significantly contribute to the ongoing growth and success of Goodwin.

Reflecting on how the industry has changed over the last few years, Stephen said, “I have observed substantial changes across resident’s and client's needs, wants and preferences, extensive focus on non-clinical services and increase in the volume of much-needed regulation and scrutiny on aged care service providers.”

He added, “Goodwin’s commitment to innovation and continual improvement in services makes us a leader in the aged-care industry. Goodwin caters to the changing needs of seniors and takes a collaborative approach to their whole health with a suite of non-clinical, health and wellness services to ensure a better quality of life.”

In his role as CEO, Stephen aims to continue delivering on Goodwin’s mission to be a leader in the provision of quality care, services, and accommodation for seniors to make their lives richer and fuller.

Liesel Wett, Goodwin Board of Directors and Chair said, “Over the next five years, Goodwin and the aged care industry will embark on implementing reforms arising from recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. In doing so, Goodwin will remain committed to providing quality care for seniors.”

“We understand that the delivery of quality services is largely dependent on having a skilled, motivated, and caring workforce. Steve’s worldly experience will strengthen the organisation's vision of providing the highest quality aged care services and accommodation.”

Despite the current workforce challenges faced within the industry, Goodwin has grown to become one of the national capital’s largest non-Government not-for-profit employers. The organisation is committed to attracting and retaining a skilled workforce to ensure it meets the changing needs and demands of its residents and clients at present and in the future.

Liesel continued, “Our planned investments in our staff, facilities and business systems will continue to ensure quality service in the years ahead.”

This strategic move in appointing an exceptionally high calibre leader reflects the value of the organisation and of Goodwin’s ongoing commitment to further deepen its links to the Canberra community.

Liesel concluded, “Steve’s depth of knowledge about the aged care industry will support Goodwin in building on its long history of innovation and provision of services. We have full confidence in his leadership and his next phase of the development and care delivery.”
