Aged care homes in Australia will soon be required to have a nurse on-site 24-hours a day, with one of the government’s aged care reforms passing the Senate today.
This policy was one of the key aged care promises made by Labor during this year’s election campaign.
The new legislation also mandates an increase in the number of care minutes residents in aged care receive.
Glen Driscol, an aged care nurse, told the media earlier, “It gives me home that reforms can happen. We need to make the sector attractive enough to get workers.”
