They may not be Olympians – or even tri-athletes – but the determination to succeed amongst members of the Regis Aged Care community can’t be disputed.
That’s because dozens of seniors from a range of Regis aged care homes in Perth gathered at Regis Nedlands last week to take part in a highly anticipated tournament - the organisation’s first ever Seated Tennis Championship.
Teams from Regis Embleton, Regis Nedlands, Regis Woodlands and Regis Weston ignited their competitive spirit and fought hard to gain the highest team score for a chance at winning the perpetual trophy.
Sam Waldron, Regis Nedlands General Manager, said the games were an opportunity for residents to experience being part of a sporting team again, whilst enjoying social interaction and an element of competition.
“We were very pleased at how the competition has been embraced by our residents,” says Mr Waldron. “It’s certainly fair to say that our residents’ competitive spirit is still very much alive and well.
“Regis is focused on enriching the lives of the people for whom we care and that means also improving their levels of self-esteem and confidence, as well as physical rehabilitation and cognition, which is why we ran this competition across our organisation.
“I think it’s fair to say our residents have had a lot of fun taking part and I’d like to thank the entire lifestyle team at Regis Nedlands for their organisation and making the tournament a huge success.”
After many weeks of practice and a nail-biting finish, the team from Regis Weston were crowned the inaugural winners of the first ever Regis Seated Tennis tournament. Well done to all who took part.
