Home Revels in the Sound of Music, in Tribute to the Queen

The sound of the most exquisite music could be heard at a popular aged care home in the Shire of Mundaring last month, as residents paid tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II in collaboration with Tres Classique, a classical ensemble of professional musicians which has performed with both the Perth and West Australian Symphony Orchestras.

Dozens of residents and a number of care staff at Regis Greenmount were captivated throughout the 45-minute performance, which saw a spectacular string ensemble perform an intimate concert of exhilarating and joyful music, all from Her Majesty’s favourite classical composers, including Bach, Mozart, Elgar and Bernstein.

In addition, a selection of pieces were chosen from the annual Royal Variety musical theatre performances, including the Wizard of Oz, Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera, together with some of Her Majesty’s favourite hymns featured in her funeral service and burial procession.

Richard Horne, Regis Greenmount General Manager, said the service held at the aged care home had been a moving tribute to the Queen and demonstrated the deep affection which so many seniors hold for her.

“Our residents were very keen to express their sorrow at Queen Elizabeth II passing; our community is united in feeling that she delivered a life of impeccable service and conduct, we all have great respect and admiration for her,” he said.

“What’s more the therapeutic effect of music for seniors, particularly those living with Alzheimer’s and other related conditions, can’t be overstated and music is often an incredible trigger for emotions and memories from our past to emerge.

‘’We all know music is good for the soul, but according to scientific studies it’s very good for our health too.”

Following the concert, Regis Greenmount residents were unanimous in their praise for the performance.

“I was so enthralled I didn’t want the performers to stop, their music was just so heartfelt and exquisite, it was truly mesmerising and a wonderful tribute to the late Queen,” said resident Jean Paget.

“We had a wonderful afternoon and listening to the harp being played was particularly uplifting,” added senior Anne Ridgeway.
