Taking a Spin Around the Salisbury Community

on Monday, October 31, 2022

Residents from a popular Brisbane aged care home recently jumped on a bike and felt the wind in their hair as they took a scenic tour around their community. Thanks to the not-for-profit organisation Cycling Without Age, the seniors from Regis Salisbury were able to jump on a specially adapted trishaw for a spin around the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and the Southbank.

Cycling Without Age is a global movement which started in Denmark 10 years ago and which helps mature aged people remain active and outdoors by experiencing the thrill of a bike ride while also improving their social interactions and opportunities to experience fun and laughter.

“I had a wonderful afternoon going on the bike ride through the Gardens and the Southbank – it was worth its weight in gold,” says Regis Salisbury resident Jessie.

“This was by far the best lifestyle activity I’ve experienced,” shares Susan.

Shaun Fields, Regis Salisbury General Manager, says the initiative gives their residents a new sense of freedom and offers them the joy of feeling the wind in their hair as they take in the scenic views around their community.

Cycling Without Age is an international, not for profit organisation which connects elderly people and those with a disability to their community by organising volunteers to take them out on rides in specially designed trishaw bikes.
