Flower Power and Fashions of Yesteryear on Parade at Regis Greenmount

on Wednesday, November 9, 2022

Residents at Regis Greenmount went on a trip down memory lane last week when they ‘celebrated the 60s’ with an afternoon fashion show focused on sustainability, which included live music, singing and dancing.

The fun, fashion event also featured models from Dene Selby Modelling Agency, who donated their time to showcase the designs of residents, who had re-worked a number of vintage clothes from the era into unique and wearable art pieces.

Richard Horne, Regis Greenmount General Manager, explained that the special fashion event formed part of the Creative Fashion, Music and Visual Art Therapy program at the home, and was dedicated to celebrating the youth and creativity of residents, while aiming to spark happy and joyful memories.

“Our fashion show featured an array of clothing from the past and it was wonderful to see our residents and the models hit the runway and strut their stuff to bring back 1960’s fashion,” he said.

“The residents and staff had worked tirelessly on their personally styled outfits and the whole event sparked great joy for young and old alike.”

Seniors involved in the clothes design for the event included: Dorothy Palmer, John Towers-Hammond, Dennis Rowland, Jayne Barrett, Beverly Nota-Taylor, Penny McIntyre, Marilyn Claridge, Jean Perry and Emelia Muscufo.

In addition, Perth entertainer and singer Jay Weston performed a variety of 1960’s pop classics during the afternoon.

Model Tara, 17, said the event brought a huge amount of happiness and joy to everyone involved.

“The show was very special and enjoyable for us as well. It warmed our hearts to see the residents’ smiles, hear their laughter and see them dance along with us; it was a memorable event for everyone involved.”

Model Talisha,18, added: “It was so much fun participating in the show and being able to see how much fun this creative project brought to everyone involved. I’m also extremely grateful to have been able to give back to the community by modelling the clothes that the lovely residents designed.”
