Finding a Home at Regis Frankston: Joyce's Journey of Rehabilitation, Rest, and Renewal

on Monday, February 13, 2023

Meet Joyce Barrett, a valued member of the Regis community since 2018. She originally came to Regis Frankston as a part of her Transitional Care Program after needing some rehabilitation, before returning to her home for three years with the help of her family.

“Being at Regis Frankston gave me the time and care to rest, rehabilitate and restart my journey towards home,” Joyce fondly shares.

After three years of enjoying her independence, she later returned to Regis Frankston for a short-term respite stay whilst her family was on vacation. “Throughout those four weeks, I was reunited with many team members that had become my friends during my first stay at Regis,” says Joyce.

This familiarity made Joyce’s return all the more warm and welcoming and allowed her to settle in very quickly. After being surrounded by familiar faces and new friendships, Joyce decided that she would like to become a permanent resident at the aged care home.

“From the moment I walked into Regis Frankston, I felt I had come home. I felt safe and protected,” expresses Joyce.

“I feel like I will never be lonely again. I love my room; I love almost everything about living here. My meals are cooked, my room is cleaned and my washing is washed! I have medical services available at a moment's notice and I love to join in the daily activities program with the Lifestyle Team. I also still go out with my family on special occasions which is always special.”

Joyce reiterates “I have no regrets about choosing to live at Regis Frankston and enjoy just being here.”

Some advice Joyce always tells us is you need to “take what comes and enjoy it.”
