Friendships Flourish at Mercy Place Lathlain

on Monday, April 3, 2023

New friendships are set to flourish at Mercy Health’s Mercy Place Lathlain aged care home with youngsters from the nearby Nido Early School. Residents at the not-for-profit home are set to build friendships with children from the school as part of an intergenerational partnership, which encourages companionship and connections between young and old.

The children, who range from toddlers to pre-schoolers, are set to visit regularly following an ‘Neighbour Day’ meet and greet’ which took place on Monday 27 March, and which was hailed a success by all involved.

Mercy Place Lathlain Service Manager, Pammy Singh, says the benefits of the partnership would extend both ways, with the children and residents who took part set to enjoy their time together and make time for arts and crafts activities, as well as music and story time.

“We’re delighted to have initiated this intergenerational partnership with Nido Early School, which will benefit the residents and children alike,” she said.

“Our residents love spending time with children and they’re very keen to share their hobbies, stories and life lessons with little ones, and also join in in with some fun activities.”
