Regis Bunbury to commemorate Anzac Heroes and Ex-Service Men and Women Ahead of Anzac Day

More than 100 years on from the birth of the Anzac legend, Regis Bunbury will commemorate the Anzac heroes and other ex-service men and women in its midst ahead of Anzac Day on Tuesday April 25.

And despite - at 82 years of age - being far too young to have experienced the First World War or even World War II first-hand, the day will still hold particular significance for resident Lance Bartlett, who has lived at the popular aged care home for the last 18 months, as he joins fellow residents to commemorate those who served their country during wartime.

“I will always honour those who served as I always think to myself what would have happened to this country without those brave men, and women too, who served and died in the First World War, and indeed in all subsequent wars,” says Lance, whose father was a member of the Australian Military Forces (AMF), the official name of the Australian army from 1916 to 1980.

“My father was in Darwin for much of the Second World War and it was only by luck that the war ended before he was sent overseas, so Anzac Day is very special for me personally as it’s important for me to honour my father and remember all of those who served, as well as all of the brave men and women who are still serving today.”

Regis Bunbury General Manager, Kylie Marquart, said Anzac Day was an important and emotional day for many residents.

“Anzac Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions and every year Regis Bunbury acknowledges the exceptional contribution of all Australian service men and women in our Anzac Day ceremony.  It’s a time for us all to reflect on the bravery and selflessness of all of the incredibly brave Australians who served their country,” she said.

“Indeed, our Anzac Day commemorations enable many of our residents to reflect on the war years, reminisce about that time whether they were a young adult or a child, and also remember those who lost their lives. It’s an important day for all of us.”

Residents at Regis Bunbury will commemorate Anzac Day by holding a service within the home on 25 April, with special guest the Hon. Nola Marino, MP for Bunbury, followed by an afternoon tea for everyone at the popular aged care home.
