Making the Aged Care Application Process Easier

on Tuesday, May 30, 2023

For seniors and their families, making the decision to transition from living independently to a residential aged care community is a significant milestone. Applying to live in aged care can seem quite daunting, but the introduction of Carinity’s new streamlined online applications is making the process easier.

“The application process is now much faster, more convenient and less strenuous to complete. Our application forms have been shortened to make it easier to apply without a doctor having to complete sections of the form,” said Carinity Aged Care Regional Residential Manager, Larissa Gear.

“Prospective residents or a family member can apply online on one form and attach documents, either on a computer, mobile phone or tablet. It will make it easier to complete forms with a loved one while they’re still in hospital, for example.”

Carinity’s simplified application procedure also negates the need to print or collate documents, and users can save their progress and complete it online at a later time.

The application process has been embraced by industry professionals such as Zee Klebic. A Senior Social Worker with West Moreton Health, Zee helps families of older seniors who need to transition into aged care following a stay in hospital.

“The majority of times people wish to return home (following a hospital stay) and we support them with that. However, in some situations that is not a possibility which leads to placement at a residential aged care facility,” Zee said.

Zee lauded Carinity’s new aged care application process, which can also be used for respite care, as being “very effective and time efficient”.

“There is no information duplication. And the fact that a medical doctor does not need to fill out certain sections of the application is brilliant, as at times previously that has been the hardest part to organise,” Zee said.

“We can now take either a discharge plan or statement from the hospital or a medical summary from a GP, rather than a doctor physically having to complete our form.”

Applicants have the ability to nominate preferred Carinity residential aged care communities they would like to live in, and take virtual tours of seniors’ communities in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Townsville.

Carinity also provides online guides on applying and moving into aged care, including how to understand the costs of aged care.
