Laurie Celebrates a Leap Year Birthday

How can a 92-year-old legitimately celebrate his 23^rd birthday? When he is born on 29 February in a leap year of course! Laurie Fletcher, Resthaven Onkaparinga Community Services client, was born on 29 February 1932. This year is the 23^rd time he has been able to celebrate on the actual day of his birth.

‘I’ve always had the choice of either February 28 or March 1 – so I’d usually choose the one closest to the weekend,’ Laurie says.

His elder brother, born on February 28, would always prefer him to pick March 1.

Earlier this week, Laurie celebrated his ‘23^rd birthday’ with the Resthaven Onkaparinga Community Services Men’s Group which he attends fortnightly. He is looking forward to also celebrating with family and friends on the weekend. Happy birthday Laurie!
