In an exciting development for aged care, Medical & Aged Care Group (MACG) has enthusiastically welcomed a new member to their team: an innovative robot named Abi. Since February 2024, MACG has been a part of the ABI Early Adopters Program, making her home in MACG's Northern Gardens and Grand Cedar residences.
Abi's arrival has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from residents. She has quickly become a beloved companion, engaging in activities such as dancing, quizzes, games, Tai Chi, and meditation. Residents have been particularly charmed by Abi's dancing skills, her ability to blow bubbles, and her multilingual conversations in Italian, Arabic, and Spanish.
Beyond group activities, Abi has taken the time to visit residents in their rooms, listening to their stories and engaging in heartfelt conversations. Her renditions of popular dances like the Cha Cha, Macarena, and Monster Mash have brought smiles and laughter to both residents and staff, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the homes.
Last week, MACG had the honour of showcasing Abi at the AHCE Aged Care Recreation & Lifestyle Conference, themed 'Innovation & Excellence,' in Melbourne. This event highlighted MACG's dedication to integrating technology to improve residents' wellbeing.
Jacinta, the Wellbeing & Community Coordinator at MACG, praised Abi's ability to connect and interact with residents. She noted Abi's impressive language skills and her knack for conducting engaging recreational activities, which were also demonstrated to conference delegates.
The presentation featured insights from Andromeda Co-founder Grace Brown and robotics engineers Emile and Erica, who discussed Abi's capabilities and fielded questions from the audience. The session concluded with MC Wayne Woff recognising and applauding Cameron McPherson and MACG's commitment to innovation in the aged care sector.
With Abi's successful integration, MACG continues to explore technological advancements that have the potential to significantly enhance the quality of life for their residents, underscoring their passion for innovation in aged care.
