Boost for Mornington Peninsula as Apollo Care Adds The Bays Aged Care Community to its Network

on Tuesday, June 4, 2024

Aged care bed numbers will be boosted and services enhanced as fast-growing national specialist Apollo Care assumes approved provider status today for The Bays Aged Care community on the Mornington Peninsula.

Continuing its proven model of retaining the ethos and identity of an existing community while enhancing service provision, Apollo Care will invest significantly in expansion of the 90-bed aged care facility in Hastings.

CEO Stephen Becsi welcomed The Bays Aged Care into the Apollo Care network, which places strong emphasis on recognising the important role not-for-profit providers have traditionally played in regional aged care.

“We respect the people and organisations who have taken on the role of caring for our vulnerable seniors in the past, and we will honour their legacy as we look to the future,” Mr Becsi said.

“Specifically, this means minimising the impact on residents, staff and families by retaining the existing brand and community, and simply injecting additional funding and specialist expertise to optimise care services.

“Apollo Care’s operating model has been recognised nationally and across the Asia-Pacific region for its commitment to blending nimble and innovative management methods with the latest care technology to deliver outstanding results for residents.

Mr Becsi said plans are already underway to rejuvenate the Hastings site, starting this calendar year, with planning for additional beds among early priorities.

"We’re most impressed with the culture at The Bays Aged Care and we want staff and volunteers to continue doing exactly what they’re doing so well – providing excellent, relationship-centred care to the most vulnerable residents in their community.

"We also invited Directors from The Bays Healthcare Group to remain on the board of The Bays Aged Care organisation to ensure continuity, and I’m pleased to say Carol Allen and Brent Dennison have accepted.”

Chair of The Bays Healthcare Group, Brett Gallagher, predicted Apollo Care will be an excellent provider of Aged Care services for residents and the Westernport community.

"The transition of our aged care facility to Apollo Care will ensure specialists are providing the right services to the people of the Mornington Peninsula,” Mr Gallagher said.

“Residents will continue to receive the same excellent level of care they’ve come to expect, and staff will be supported by Apollo Care’s excellent employee wellbeing program.

“Apollo Care has the scale, expertise and investment capacity to grow and expand the services at The Bays Aged Care, and the initiative will free up The Bays Hospital to further invest into areas such as our new cancer centre, advanced medical equipment and new digital technologies.”

Apollo Care was built from the ground up seven years ago by a team of industry specialists with 85 years’ cumulative experience. In addition to Stephen Becsi OAM, former CEO of Bethanie, WA’s largest NFP provider, Apollo Care’s leadership team comprises Barry Ashcroft, former CEO of Domain Aged Care, now Opal; Kylie Radburn, former National Care Governance Manager at Aveo; and John Young, a leading equity capital specialist.

The other communities in Apollo Care’s alliance are in New South Wales - Bundaleer (Wauchope), Charingfield (Waverley), Harden Grange (Harden), Vincent Court (Kempsey), Tenterfield Care Haddington (Tenterfield) and Tenterfield Care Millrace (Tenterfield); Queensland - PresCare Alexandra Gardens (Rockhampton), PresCare Groundwater Lodge (Maryborough), PresCare Yaralla Place (Maryborough) and Nanyima Care (Mirani); and Victoria – Yackandandah Health (Yackandandah).
