Tricare Mt Gravatt Retirement’s First Ever Resident Celebrates Three Decades of Care

on Tuesday, July 9, 2024

TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community’s first ever resident has joined the facility in celebrating more than three decades of care, reminiscing on her most cherished memories.

Brenda Murnane, aged 101, paid tribute to the place she called home for over 33 years alongside her long-time friends and fellow residents.

“It’s very surreal celebrating 33 years of this incredible community – a lot has changed since the day I first moved in,” Brenda said.

“When I moved into TriCare, there were only a few houses built on the block. It wasn’t until a few years later that they built the reception, the roads, more houses and units, and other residents started moving in.

“The community has completely transformed over recent years which has been incredible to witness. There are now endless social activities to get involved in, beautiful lakes and gardens to stroll through, sitting areas with fireplaces, several dining spaces, and so much more.

“It’s not common to grow alongside a retirement community, so I’m very grateful to have experienced this place evolve into what it is today.”

Village Manager Louise Mathers said it was heart-warming to see Brenda celebrate the special occasion alongside her friends, her infectious laughter filling the room.

“It was so lovely to welcome back our first ever resident to the facility for a very special celebration,” Ms Mathers said.

“Brenda was and always will be a well-loved and cherished resident of our community.

“It was beyond heart-warming to see how excited her friends were when she walked through those doors once again, and to hear how much our facility has impacted her life.”

While Brenda is no longer living in retirement, the facility welcomes her back with open arms any time she pleases and wishes her a smooth transition into aged care.

“I’m looking forward to watching the community continue to grow and the new generation of retirement residents come through.”
