Mrs Margaret (Marg) Wagner is a firm believer that you reap what you sow. A former registered nurse at Resthaven Leabrook, Marg is now a resident at Resthaven Mitcham and says that she is enjoying the culture of care and dignity that she helped to nurture as a worker for the aged care provider.
‘Love, care, support – a happy home,’ Marg says. ‘These are the things that people want – and Resthaven has all of that.’
With an energy and spirit that is hard to match, Marg is enjoying her new accommodation.
‘I’m so grateful to be here,’ Marg says. ‘I have wonderful friends who come to visit, and I never have a day on my own. ‘
Marg did her nurse training at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and then worked in London for a time, taking up private nursing.
‘It was eye-opening to see how the other half live!’ Marg laughs.
She was overseas for around 12 months, before coming back to Adelaide, where she found work nursing for an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist. Marg then made her way into aged care, beginning at Resthaven in the 1970s, where she stayed working for more than 20 years. In the later years of her career, Marg moved to other aged care providers, as well as into supervisory roles.
‘There wasn’t one person there (at Resthaven Leabrook) I wasn’t fond of,’ Marg says. ‘Anything they (the residents) needed – we did. It’s the little things that really make a difference – I used to offer them, and now I accept them.’
Marg moved into Resthaven Mitcham in 2023 and is an active and valued member of the vibrant site community.
