Salvos Home Care, The Salvation Army Aged Care’s in-home care division, expands its services in South Australia, with Simon Pavelic as Home Care Manager. The new service works with clients to develop personalised care plans, which are focused on enhancing independence, health, and wellbeing, and which can be adjusted if a client’s needs change.
Simon brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the aged care space, having been in the sector for over 20 years, with the last 10 years in home care. “Leadership to me means many things, including advocating for the rights and needs of older adults, while maintaining transparency and accountability in all aspects of care,” he says. “It means being present and working collaboratively with your team.”
Older Australians can access home care services through either the Commonwealth Home Support Program or Home Care Packages. Salvos Home Care South Australia is a Home Care Package provider and can assist with a wide range of services tailor-made to clients’ needs.
When assessing who may be eligible for Salvos Home Care’s new South Australian in-home care services, General Manager Fiona Sanders states it’s catered to people who may require additional support at home.
“As people age, for a variety of reasons, certain things that they do in their life can become more difficult,” Fiona says. “This might be because of declining mobility, or because of the way the house is set up, or possibly because the usual social support network is no longer available. So, the idea of tapping into a funded home care service is just to make life easier.”
Common services that clients may request include domestic assistance and gardening, social support such as assisting people with shopping, accessing community services such as church or taking clients on outings. Other popular services include physiotherapy, podiatry, personal care and clinical care such as wound care and helping people with medications.
“All our staff are fully qualified,” Fiona says. “They participate in regular training; they are police-checked, and we’ve got a great team of support staff to make sure that our home care team are well looked after and that they care for people properly in the home. We’ve been providing care for over 140 years at The Salvation Army and our Home Care division is diverse.”
