Last week, members of the community, staff and residents joined to honour Resthaven’s exceptional history of service to the people of Mackay and celebrate becoming the latest member of the Apollo Care Alliance, securing its future for generations to come.
Apollo Care is a specialist aged care provider focused on supporting stand-alone regional aged care communities to evolve and thrive while preserving the vital role they play in their local communities.
Resthaven, one of the oldest family-run aged care communities in the Capricornia Coast, will continue to deliver excellent resident-focused care, while also benefitting from the specialist support and investment Apollo Care will bring.
Resthaven’s Director and Clinical and Operations Manager, Mary Anne Edwards, who has owned the community with her mother, Joan, for decades, said the governance landscape in the aged care sector is now more challenging than ever before, making it very difficult for a stand-alone, privately owned provider to navigate.
“I’m delighted our community is now part of the Apollo Care Alliance. They understand the challenges of residential aged care in regional settings and their unique vision is to protect the legacy of each community and ensure they remain sustainable.
“It’s vital that independent aged care communities like Resthaven are supported with the expertise we need to meet the ever-increasing demand for aged care in Mackay."
Apollo Care’s Transitions Manager, Michael O’Connor, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Resthaven to our national alliance of 13 aged care communities. This 4-star community has an outstanding reputation, a dedicated and long-serving workforce, excellent care compliance and a strong culture.
“Apollo Care brings a highly experienced team, industry-leading care governance, and an award-winning staff culture program, and will fund enhancements such as technology upgrades, and improvements to resident spaces, hospitality services and lifestyle resources. Together, these will make Resthaven on Quarry an even better place to live and work, today and into the future.”
Ms Edwards said she took confidence from Nanyima Aged Care in nearby Mirani which has been part of Apollo Care since 2023.
“We were impressed with the support it’s received from Apollo Care, including advancing plans to construct a 28-bed specialist memory support household.”
“Staff are our greatest asset,” said Mr O’Connor.
“We look forward to supporting the valued staff and volunteers to continue doing exactly what they’re doing so well – providing excellent care and ensuring residents and their families feel a real sense of community. Also, as Resthaven will transition into a not-for-profit, staff will be able to access salary packaging.”
“This is more than a business decision,” concluded Ms Edwards.
“I’m confident Apollo Care will continue our family’s legacy and ensure Resthaven’s continued success in the next 50 years.”
