The Federal Government has opened applications for grants worth up to $20,000 for local community groups to deliver courses to seniors.
The grants are available to local community training providers and not-for-profit community groups in Sydney and are worth between $5,000 and $20,000.
A new State Government program will ease the burden on public hospital beds in New South Wales, by allowing patients to spend six weeks in transitional care after leaving hospital.
The Community Package Programs (ComPacks) provides patients leaving hospital with immediate access to community services and case management by health care providers.The New South Wales Ministry of Health has delivered the program to a range of health care providers, who will be able to provide much needed community care and support to people after they leave hospital.
Older Australians are being encouraged to practice safe sex as the latest figures reveal Chlamydia has doubled in Australian’s over 40 since 2005. Family Planning NSW has launched a safe sex awareness campaign for older Australians, with the aim of educating people over 40 about the risks of having sex without a condom.
National Dementia Awareness Week (DAW) will run from 21-28 September with the aim of encouraging Australians to live a ‘brain healthy lifestyle.’
The week will coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September and events will be held all over the country including events in Victoria, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland and the ACT.
