Dementia Awareness Month takes place each September to raise awareness on what is fast becoming one of the leading causes of death in Australia.

Antibiotic overuse in residential aged care prompts organisational overhaul

The overuse of antibiotics in residential aged care has necessitated the urgent review of organisational workflow and workplace culture in the Australian aged care setting, recent research shows.

The research, published in the Medical Journal of Australia in July, was based around several interviews, focus groups and onsite observations of 61 doctors, nurses and pharmacists servicing 12 residential facilities in Victoria between January and July last year.

Transition program helps older Aussies go home after hospital

Older people recently discharged from hospital are more than 50 per cent likely to return to the community after receiving care through the Government’s Transition Care Program (TCP), a recent report shows.

Conducted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), the report analyses the activities of the TCP since its introduction in 2005 through till June last year.
