On 25 April, Mrs Patricia Mackey (nee Barnes), will celebrate her centenarian milestone in her home at Resthaven Marion Independent Retirement Living Units, as she reflects on a "life worth living." More than 100 years on from the birth of the Anzac legend, Regis Bunbury will commemorate the Anzac heroes and other ex-service men and women in its midst ahead of Anzac Day on Tuesday April 25. And despite - at 82 years of age - being far too young to have experienced the First World War or even World War II first-hand, the day will still hold particular significance for resident Lance Bartlett, who has lived at the popular aged care home for the last 18 months, as he joins fellow residents to commemorate those who served their country during wartime.
In the lead up to Anzac Day, new research has revealed two in five (43%) Australians agree that veterans are adequately supported with essential services, such as mental and physical health care and financial assistance – with the same number (43%) confirming that more needs to be done to provide adequate support.
TLC CEO Lou Pascuzzi has announced today there is no reason aged care homes cannot provide 24/7 nursing staff to care for their residents. “We certainly didn’t have to wait for a Royal Commission to tell us we needed 24/7 registered nursing staff. We’ve had Registered Nurses (RN’s) on staff 24/7 since the inception of the company. We see it as being clinically necessary when providing this level of care to our residents."
