The Support at Home program is designed to help older Australians live independently while receiving the care and support they need. If you or a loved one are considering this program, you may have questions about how it works, what services are available, and how to apply. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the Support at Home program.
Brisbane man Allan Ashton has fit a lot into his 99 years – both on the ground and in the air! The Carinity Home Care client, who celebrated his 99th birthday last week, was born in Newcastle in New South Wales in 1926. Allan went on to work as an electrical fitter for BHP in his hometown.
The occupation would later see Allan and his wife Marion – who he married in 1957 – relocate to Ontario in Canada where Allan oversaw a large manufacturing company.
The Australian Government’s Support at Home program is set to replace Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care from 1 July 2025. Designed to improve in-home aged care services, this new program introduces updated assessment processes, service classifications, and funding structures to ensure seniors receive care tailored to their individual needs.
