The exhibition includes more than 50 framed images taken from across 36 countries as well as items from Mr Neilson’s antique camera collection also on display.
The self-taught photographer says his philosophy has always been “to wait for the very best light, either early in the morning sunrise, or late afternoon at sunset, adhering to these principles has seldom let me down”.
Originally from Traralgon, Mr Neilson operated a gallery in Metung before moving, with wife Jean, to the Benetas retirement community in March 2022.
Mr Neilson then relocated to the adjoining Benetas Dalkeith Gardens aged care home in November 2023 for medical reasons.
All works have been brought over from the Metung gallery and will now remain in the community centre on loan until further notice.
Mr Neilson said it was a thrill to have his works exhibited in the community, allowing friends and neighbours to enjoy some of his life’s work.
“I’ve had the good fortune to travel the world, from Antarctica to the Artic, so it’s great to be able to share these images with the Dalkeith Gardens and Dalkeith Heights communities,” Mr Neilson said.
Benetas CEO Sandra Hills OAM said it was wonderful for Mr Neilson, the retirement village and the aged care home to come together and acknowledge this amazing body of work.
“Mr Neilson’s photographic eye has evoked the full gamut of emotions inspired by what our wonderous planet has to offer,” Ms Hills said.
