Extra Services in residential aged care are additional hotel-like services which aged care homes are not legally required to provide.

Extra Services in residential aged care can include things like:

  • A larger bedroom, often private with an ensuite bathroom
  • More meal choices
  • A glass of wine with dinner
  • Daily newspaper/magazine delivery
  • Hairdressing services
  • Pay TV in the bedroom

To pay for Extra Services, an additional fee could be included in the daily care fee, or you may be required to pay a bond.

The fee will vary between aged care residences.

Peter ‘Always Looks Forward to’ His Days at Resthaven

Peter Johnson, 74, has been attending Resthaven’s Riverland Community Services social group for the past few years, and says that it has been a great way for him to get out of the house and meet new people. ‘It’s something I always look forward to,’ Peter says of the group. ‘The staff do a fantastic job.’

IRT Submits DA to Upgrade and Reopen Unanderra Aged Care Building

IRT has reached a significant milestone in its project to renovate and refurbish Marco Polo Unanderra Aged Care Centre with the submission of a Development Application this week. The project is made possible by a $15.8 million grant provided under the Commonwealth’s Aged Care Capital Assistance Program. The project, which was officially announced by Minister for Aged Care and Sport the Hon Anika Wells MP on 5 September 2024, will deliver more aged care beds to the Illawarra.
