My Aged Care is one of the first places you need to visit if you want to access government funded aged care services in Australia. The website is designed to help you find all the information you need about subsidised aged care options, whether that be residential aged care or home care services.
One of the first things you will need to do, is find out if you are eligible to receive government funded aged care services. This is done through an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT or ACAS in Victoria). An aged care assessment is designed to determine what type of care will best suit you and how much support you need.
Once you have completed your assessment, you will be issued an Aged Care User ID/referral code that keeps a central record of your assessed needs and government funded services provided to you. Once you have a referral code, you can start looking for suitable providers of aged care in your area, using an easy-to-use independent directory like Aged Care Online.
If you have been places on the waiting list for a Home Care Package, you will receive a letter from My Aged Care advising you when a package has been allocated to you and when funding will start.
Government subsidised services that may be eligible to access include:
The My Aged Care contact centre is available by calling 1800 200 422 and is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm and on Saturday from 10am until 2pm. The contact centre is closed on Sundays and national public holidays.
Alternatively, you can visit www.myagedcare.gov.au to find out more.
