Helping Hand Breaks Ground on Port Pirie Residential Aged Care Home Extension

on Wednesday, March 30, 2016

An extension to Helping Hand Aged Care’s Lealholme residential care home in Port Pirie is set to commence in the next week.

The $6 million dollar investment by Helping Hand includes a capital grant from the Australian Government to assist to build the extension to the existing Halliday Street aged care home.

“The extension will provide accommodation for 30 residents.  This enables us to consolidate our two Port Pirie residential care homes at Senate Road and Halliday Street into one residential facility at Halliday Street, providing a total of 104 places” said Ian Hardy, Chief Executive at Helping Hand.

The consolidation of Helping Hand’s two homes will offer substantial benefits to both residents and staff, including access to additional lifestyle and wellness services and the centralization of Helping Hand’s multidisciplinary team.  This will provide a more integrated approach to service delivery and care.

“Our ongoing commitment to the community is to maintain and further develop a high quality residential care site that meets the needs of our residents today and in the future” Ian said.

Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said it is exciting to see the commencement of construction of this project.

“The care of the elderly is a social responsibility the Government considers vitally important,” Mr Ramsey said.

“The aged care system in Australia aims to make sure that all older people receive support and quality care with dignity when they need it.”

“I congratulate Helping Hand on the Lealholme extension which will offer families in this region expanded and excellent care for loved ones.”

Construction of the new rooms, common spaces and gardens will be completed by the end of 2016.

Helping Hand is a large not for profit organisation providing residential aged care and home care services to older people living within regional South Australia.
