Last month, BaptistCare Aminya Centre resident, Mrs Ethel Irene ‘Rene’ Wilkey, celebrated her one hundredth birthday, an occasion rightly demanding a full week of celebrations.
Rene’s official party was held on Saturday 10 June, and was attended by 55 guests including her granddaughter who flew in from Germany, and grandson who travelled from Central Asia. Members of her Australian-based family also joined the celebrations, alongside friends and BaptistCare Aminya Centre staff and residents.
With a couple of rest days under her belt, Rene’s celebrations continued with an afternoon tea hosted by the staff at BaptistCare Aminya Centre.
Later that week, Rene was again honoured with a visit from local State Parliamentarian, David Elliott MP, Member for Baulkham Hills.
Rene credits her long life to “my healthy eating”; although her daughter is quick to add that she is not overly fond of vegetables!
Throughout her life, Rene has lived a life focused on faith, family connection and keeping active. She still attends her local church every Sunday and has given much of time to teaching Sunday School over the years.
Rene first joined BaptistCare’s Aminya community in April 1997 as a resident of BaptistCare Aminya Village and lived there until deciding to move across to BaptistCare Aminya Centre in March 2016.
Over the twenty years living as part of the Aminya community, Rene has made a whole new network of friends including fellow residents, staff and neighbours.
Her family are regular visitors and have become as much a part of the Aminya family as Rene most certainly is.
