Residents of the Bolton Clarke Talbarra residential aged care community in Waterford Logan have been treated to a special morning with a visit from a local petting zoo.
The activity is designed to be a sensory experience for residents especially those with dementia as the animals stimulate memories and conversation.
Diversional Therapist Angie Corrigan organised for residents to sit in the warm winter sun for the morning and cuddle the adorable baby farm animals.
“They had a wonderful time as many of the baby animals fell asleep in their arms. There were baby goats, sheep, pigs, birds, chickens and even a tiny alpaca,” she said.
“Many of our residents have lived on farms or large properties when they were younger and they are so comfortable around these animals. They a love being able to feed them, pet them and even take them for a walk around the garden.
“Any interaction with animals is a positive one – we try to incorporate these types of activities on a regular basis.”
