Mercy Place Albury has welcomed its first residents to its brand new small household living development. The innovative aged care concept promotes independence, choice and relationships.
The redevelopment of the existing aged care site includes four homes, each with eight bedrooms, a kitchen, a lounge area, dining room, a laundry and an outdoor space. Each home has dedicated staff to provide round-the-clock care and promote a family environment.
Research has shown the small household living approach improves quality of life and reduces hospitalisation for aged care residents.
Mercy Health has successfully established small household living in Western Australia and is now rolling it out to more of its homes. Mercy Health is proud to offer small household living in Albury to support seniors in the local area.
Mercy Place Albury Service Manager Douglas Wain said he’s thrilled to see stage one complete and is excited to see residents benefit from the small household living approach.
“The transition from home to aged care can be a challenging experience for some seniors but small household living can make this move easier and more comfortable,” Mr Wain said.
“This innovative approach to aged care promotes socialisation and independence which is particularly beneficial for residents living with dementia.
“With stage one now complete, we’re excited to get started on stage two of the redevelopment which will include the creation of three more small houses, a communal café, a new entrance and a supermarket where residents will select food for meals to be cooked at their home.”
Stage two of the redevelopment will commence in the coming weeks and is expected to be completed in December 2018.
