Mercy Place Shepparton Raises $64,000 for New Bus

on Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Mercy Place Shepparton have officially raised $64,000 for a new resident transport bus thanks to the unwavering support of the local community.

Last year, residents and staff were involved in a bus accident where three residents tragically passed away. Residents involved in the accident began to work with the team at Mercy Place Shepparton to fundraise within the community for a new bus.

Through various community grants, fundraising initiatives the home officially reached its goal to purchase a new bus with wheelchair access.

“We’re so thankful to our connected community in times like this” Service Manager Angela Marchant said, “community fundraising of this scale is a really proud moment for the home as members of the Shepparton community”

“While this is a very special outcome for the home, we always remember the residents we lost, just last month we established a memorial garden and planted three trees in memory of the residents we lost in that tragic bus accident last year”

“We’ve been very lucky with the local RSL who have given us their bus on loan over the last year, they’ve also been one of our generous donors. It’s meant that our residents can stay closely connected with the community” Ms Marchant said.

The home is expecting to receive their new bus at the end of August and are looking forward to their first outing to the Tatura Bakery.
