SALA Exhibition at Resthaven Lane Cottages

on Friday, August 31, 2018

This week, Resthaven Lane Cottages, is hosting a very successful exhibition as part of the South Australian Living Artist's (SALA) festival.

The respite groups from Resthaven Community Respite Services’ Lane Cottages, Hersey Cottages and Ridgway House, joined forces to enter their artwork in the 2018 South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival, hosting the exhibition onsite at Truro Avenue, Kingswood.

"The exhibition, titled 'Art in the (re)Cycle Lane', reinvents recyclables, rubbish, and old items that are no longer loved or needed. Blending these things with some imagination has resulted in some amazing works of art," said Carole Matthews, Manager Community Respite Services.

"The creativity is clearly evident with these different recyclable products, bringing a smile to everyone who visits the exhibition."

"Many people turned up for the official opening last Sunday, including the artists and their families, who happily discussed how some of the pieces were created."

"Since then, we’ve had many more through the door every day; it has been very busy."

"The works use things from nature, such as leaves and twigs, as well as old wood, soft drink cans, bottle tops, buttons and even bread bag tags!"

"The soft drink cans make a wonderful ‘choir’, with the bread bag tags creating beautiful patterns on a large, black background, leaving it up to your imagination as to what you see in the artwork."

"We have been pleasantly surprised by the interaction with and the comments on the pieces on show. Some pieces that have been donated by grandchildren sit alongside their grandparents’ work."

"It has been so popular, we are already thinking of a theme for next year—watch this space!"
