World-Class Aged Care Residence, The Views, Opens In Heidelberg

on Monday, October 8, 2018

Leading aged care provider Benetas, has officially opened its $32 million aged care residence, The Views at Heidelberg. Benetas’ new approach to care is delivered in apartment style living. The Views will be home to 103 residents, in apartments for up to eight residents.

The Views will focus on creating a genuine household environment for residents, with each of the 13 apartments having their own kitchen, living and lounge areas. Apartments are tastefully decorated with pieces from local artists.

The decor of the facility draws on the significant influence of the Heidelberg School of impressionists. Residents, families and visitors will also have access to private galleries on each floor, managed in partnership with the Heidelberg Artists Society. Works will be available for sale and regularly rotated supporting the work of local artists. .

Benetas CEO, Sandra Hills OAM said, “Benetas is honoured to be partnering with the Heidelberg Artists Society to provide a wonderful gallery of works for our residents and visitors to enjoy.”

“We are proud of our new approach to aged care and recent research released by Flinders University confirms that our model of residents living in smaller home-like clusters have a better quality of life.”

“We’ve focused on providing residents with a more home-like environment, with handpicked and custom made furnishings to add that little bit extra to the atmosphere.”

In Benetas’ new approach each apartment has a dedicated team of carers which allows for more personal and individual care along with more choice for residents. Residents are provided with greater opportunities to create natural relationships with carers and friends, enabling them to thrive in the environment. In addition, the Views at Heidelberg will have registered and enrolled nurses available 24/7, ensuring all the needs of the residents are met.

Recent research released by Flinders University in South Australia showed that the best approach to aged care is one where residents live in home-like environments and experience more flexible and personalised care.

All current residents of Benetas Dowell Court will be relocating from Ivanhoe to The Views at Heidelberg on Monday 15 October. Residents have recently toured their new home and Dowell Court resident Georgina Riley is very excited to be moving into the new facility, saying she feels like she’s ‘hit the jackpot’.

Current carers at Dowell Court moving with residents to the new facility are excited at the prospect of more efficient workspaces and aged care technologies, and that they will now have more time to engage and interact with residents on a personal level. The familiar nurses and carers will no doubt assist to ease residents into their new home.
