Volunteers from Bunnings Warehouse at Whitfords have transformed the neglected garden beds at a local not-for-profit aged care home into a tranquil area that both residents and staff can enjoy all year round.
The new flower garden has been installed at the Craigie-based home by the team at Bunnings, who have supplied the flowers and volunteered their time to plant the new garden alongside the home’s residents.
Staff at Mercy Health’s MercyVille home say the backyard makeover has had a significant impact on everyone’s enjoyment of the area, particularly the residents.
“Earlier in the year, one of our staff members approached Bunnings to see if they could help us to give our flower gardens a new lease on life,” explains MercyVille’s Service Manager, Alison Devonport.
“Research has shown that smell and touch sensations actually promote concentration and alertness, so the garden should be a very beneficial addition for our residents here at MercyVille – as well as a beautiful one. We are very thankful to the team at Bunnings for helping us to make it a reality.”
