Aged Care Residence Wins Whitehorse Council’s Innovation Award

on Thursday, June 13, 2019

The newest aged care residence by leading aged care provider BlueCross has been recognised at the City of Whitehorse Built Environment Awards 2019 on Thursday 6 June 2019.

BlueCross Box Hill, which opened in October 2018, took home the Innovation Award, beating nine other developments comprising private residences, apartments and a sports centre.

“The Innovation Award showcases the best in design, architecture and landscape and we are thrilled with this win,” said Jonathan Neilson, BlueCross General Manager Property Development.

“BlueCross Box Hill is a purpose-built residence that caters for Australia’s ageing population with innovative design that meets both clinical and functional requirements. Combining modern aged care with contemporary living, BlueCross Box Hill is in a class of its own,” said Jonathan.

A key feature of the development is the importance given to the outdoor recreation areas and access to fresh air, daylight and connection to the garden.

“We know how important it is for residents and staff to have access to nature for their general happiness, wellbeing and health. That’s why we bring the outdoors in wherever we can throughout the residence,” added Jonathan.

The landscape design was also carefully planned to co-exist with the local streetscape.

Modern yet practical, the residence enables residents to feel secure and maintain an enjoyable lifestyle supported by its world class facilities and amenities which include a memory support environment for people living with dementia, several lounges, dining and sitting rooms, activity areas, consultation and treatment rooms, hairdressing salon, private dining room, a library, as well as a cinema and gymnasium.

Stage two of the residence is scheduled to open next month, boosting its capacity to support up to 216 residents.  “We have a long history providing quality residential aged care to older Victorians since 1993. We look forward to welcoming more residents to BlueCross Box Hill and supporting the aged care needs of the Whitehorse community,” said Jonathan.
