Now in her 70’s, Annie looks back 10 years in order to make her plans for the future

Coming out from Ireland at a young age, Annie always valued her close family here in Australia. With a loving husband, a daughter and two stepsons, Annie lives a happy life in her beautiful home in leafy Langwarrin, surrounded by her many memories and what is most important to her.

“It’s more spacious than you would think,” said Annie, when referring to her newly downsized home. “I love it.”

There are always changes to be made as you grow older. Once in a large home with family, it is now just Annie and her husband at home, enjoying their new patio and freshly planted garden.

“I love gardening. Crochet.”

Annie has a warmth and kindness to her. Now in her 70’s, we sat down with Annie to talk through some of her plans for the future and how she is planning for future changes.

“You never see what’s coming,” said Annie. “All I can do is look back 10 years and know what has happened in 10 years with me and how many things I can’t do the same. I used to be able to be able to jump up and clean the top cupboards but I can’t climb on the bench anymore. I used to be able to do that in one leap. Now, even with steps, I can’t do that.”

“Your balance goes and lots of things go and that’s why I am looking ahead. To be able to know that there is care available and we are not going to become isolated. Stuck at home with no help and feeling frustrated because we can’t do it. We are active people but when you get older, you can’t control that.”

“So, I just feel, be prepared and look ahead and think how wonderful, absolutely how wonderful it would be to have the support.”
