Not many people ride to their 90th birthday party on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle – but that’s exactly what Mrs Gloria Watkins of Para Hills did!
Gloria, who lives independently in her own home with support from Resthaven Northern Community Services, was a little miffed when her family suggested she wear trousers, rather than a skirt, to her birthday celebrations at the Para Hills Community Club.
However, as Gloria came outside to go to the party, dressed in trousers as requested, she found her grandson, David, filming her, and the next thing you know, a Harley Davidson motorbike roared into the driveway!
Manager Community Services, Karen Hammond, says, "Gloria was very surprised, and also very excited, as she hadn’t ridden on a motorbike since before she was married."
"Her first husband had owned several motorbikes, including one with a sidecar, on which she learnt to ride."
"Despite having a bit of trouble getting onto the seat, she absolutely loved the ride, and can’t wait to do it again."
"Apparently, she is thinking about getting a tattoo for her next birthday, and might even get a Harley ride to the tattoo studio!"
Many happy returns, Gloria!
